Creating Fairyscape Daylililies Signs
Evolution of ART
I asked Custom Wood Signs to create two whimsical garden signs for the garden, to be inspired by the enchantment of woodland fairies and mystical forests. Here I have laid out the genesis and evolution of these beautiful works of art come to life. I highly recommend these folks should anyone be searching for a sign maker! They have been very patient and agreeable to my myriad of changes, helping me achieve exactly what I wanted. Special thanks to Linda Panagos and Don Sorber. |
Sign #1: Fairyscape Daylilies
The first step was to come up with a creative design reflecting my vision of what would best enbody the garden, as whimsical and charming as it is. Below are the first and second attempts at designs. |

Working from the starting point above, after many email exchanges with Linda Panagos, my sign designer, we got to the two options below. We changed the fairies, got rid of mountains, de-emphasized the horizon, added bigger trees and more daylilies...and got to the two options below. |

| I really loved this but thought the background should be a bit more muted, with mist, fireflies etc. to elicit more of a mystical feeling. Below are the two final choices. I decided to go with the second one because I felt it eluded to that old growth woodland feel that I thought would be appropriate. The woods around us have that type of old growth as well so it is very fitting. I also asked that the website url be taken out to reduce clutter, replacing it with more daylilies instead ... and to add a really old looking gnarly tree. |

After my choice was made, my sign was ready for the production line. You can see the evolution of the Fairyscape Daylilies sign after it's initially phase of blasting. The daylilies in the designs are taken from my own daylily photos. You can pick out Oceans Eleven, Early Alibi, Scandinavia, Edna Selman, Wispy Rays, Blue Haired Girl, Starsearch, Plum Curls, Web Of Intrique, Tyger River, and Pink Stripes! Right bottom photo is the finished product. It looks great! |
